Fran and Don’s Story

Fran and Don’s Story

Fran Stillwell is 100 years strong and doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. Born and raised in Exeter, Fran majored in music, taught modern dance for many years and has always been physically active.  She even performed in an L.J. Williams dance recital at 85 years old!

Four years ago, Fran had a series of falls that resulted in some fractures and a broken collar bone.  It was a period of serious physical challenges for Fran but she recovered well and is now in good health. At 100 years old she has no serious medical concerns. Fran’s son Don Stillwell credits his Mom’s good health to her lifestyle and routine. “The key to her success is that she has regular habits. My dad was a Doctor and taught us all from an early age to create regular healthy habits. Mom has always been conscientious about her nutrition, does not have vices and keeps a steady active routine.”

Until recently, Fran enjoyed going for walks in her neighborhood but with the warmer weather and bad air quality, this has become increasingly difficult. Don, who has been a member since 1996 and attended the Stroke and Turn Clinics in the pool regularly, finally decided to take the advice of a good friend and TLC instructor and enroll his Mom in a membership to walk the indoor track. Since enrolling, Fran has become an inspiration to many!

Fran comes to the facility almost every weekday. She started with walking three laps around the track and is already up to 5 laps (1/2 mile). She attends the Healthy Heart class three times per week and has made many friends in the process. “The Healthy Heart class is a wonderful class. The participants have formed a close knit group and are a great mutual support system” said Don. “Exercise and The Kaweah Health Lifestyle Fitness Center have been great mentally for my Mom. After class she spends time in the café meeting new friends and re-connecting with old friends.”

Fran’s goal is to “keep going” and wants everyone to know that you are never too old! Her advice for those just starting their health and fitness journey is to get going and keep at it!
